Just two hours west of Bangkok and 40 minutes from the border with Myanmar, Kanchanaburi is a diverse and popular tourist destination and one of the most beautiful areas of Thailand with easy access to waterfalls and national parks. There is the famous Wat Than Phu Wa which features a series of grotto shrines within a large limestone cave system.

Kanchanaburi is also home to the famous Tiger Temple, a 40 minute drive away and another 20 minutes from Tiger Temple is the stunning Erawan falls, one of the most famous waterfalls in Thailand.

The famous Bridge over the River Kwai is the most known tourist attraction.  Immortalised in the film of the same name, a visit to the bridge, the POW cemetery and the DEATH museum, Hellfire pass  and a ride along the Death Railway is a must. Next to the Bridge over the River Kwai in downtown Kanchanaburi is the Goddess of Mercy, Guanyin.

Unknown to many, Kanachanaburi is also home to Prommitr Film Studio, the biggest film studio/set complex in Thailand with daily tours available just twenty minutes from the center of town.

There are many nice resorts along the ‘Strip’ on the river banks, sophisticated bars and restaurants to chill out at and many many shops. For those who want a more relaxing, natural and unique holiday experience, try a few nights at one of many floating hotels and raft houses on the River Kwai which offer guests a chance to get up close to nature in truly peaceful surroundings.

From elephant trekking, bamboo rafting to amazing temples, waterfalls and local hill tribe villages, Sai Yok National Park, Phra That Falls and Hin Dat Hot Springs are just some of the many local attractions and surprises Kanchanaburi has to offer.
