The city of Bangkok has no reputation of being a pedestrian or bicycle friendly city, but exploring the Thai capital on bike has become increasingly popular by foreign visitors and the number of organizers of these tours are getting up quickly.

More tourists, who have booked their stay in hotels and resorts in the crowded city have found the pleasure of getting to know more about the old parts of Bangkok, by booking one of the numerous cycling tours.

There are several popular tours to book.

Cycle tour around Chinatown.

These tours let you discover the old part of Bangkok and take you deeper in the narrow streets of Chinatown, and Thonburi, what is on the other side of the Chao Phraya river, which used to be the old capital of the country.

Most of these tours will let you pass old and famous landmarks such as Wat Arun, the Royal Barges and the old Portuguese area with it’s Santa Cruz Church.

Most of the Chinatown tours will take up half a day, which is enough for driving a bike in the crowded humid city.

Countryside tours.

In another part of the city, in the Bang Kapi area, organizers mapped out tours who will give you a glimpse of the countryside which borders the metropole.

The canal Saen Seab will provide you with a cycling path and the visitor will be able to see wooden Thai traditional houses, rice fields, fishing farms and most important no tourists.

These countryside tours  will take up a whole day of your time.

Bangkok Jungle tour.

These tours, although using the name Bangkok are found outside the city in places like Samut Prakhan en Samut Sakhorn.

These towns just outside the city provide cycling opportunities for tours to ride along the river, small canals and strips of tropical jungle.

Most of these tours use good western standard bikes, and it is advised to wear a helmet for your safety.

Incl. your tour will be hotel or resort pick-up service, bike and helmet rent, water and some snacks, an English speaking guide, accident insurance and admission fees.

You can also check with your hotel or resort if they can book a cycling tour for you.
